A Florida woman, who initiated a romantic relationship with her mother’s partner after her mother passed away from breast cancer, has been found guilty of fatally stabbing him following their marriage.

Danielle Redlick admitted to killing her spouse and former stepfather, Michael Redlick, 65, in self-defense on January 11, 2019. Despite her claims, her daughter voiced concerns for her brother’s safety, describing Danielle as hiding behind a facade. Danielle, at 22, began dating Michael, then 39, stating that they bonded after her mother died of “aggressive breast cancer,” as reported by Law and Crime.

Following her mother’s demise, Michael frequented the bar where Danielle worked, leading to the development of their romantic involvement. Danielle mentioned, “I found it enjoyable. He was well-traveled and intelligent, so it was all new and thrilling for me. Eventually, it evolved into a romantic relationship.” Tragically, their relationship took a fatal turn when Danielle fatally stabbed her former stepfather-turned-husband, according to The Mirror US.

Danielle’s recount of Michael’s death changed over time. Initially, she informed the emergency services that she suspected her husband had suffered a heart attack at their Orange County residence. Despite evading a second-degree murder conviction, she was sentenced to a year of probation for tampering with evidence by cleaning up the crime scene.

Expressing her apprehensions, Danielle’s adult daughter, Jadyn, urged authorities to implement a no-contact order to protect herself and her sibling from their mother’s influence. In a letter, she emphasized, “Despite the facade this woman presents, I am not deceived. My father was not able to escape in time, and I am deeply concerned for my brother’s safety. Your Honor, please establish a restriction preventing Danielle from coming near me and Sawyer.”

Danielle alleged that Michael had been physically abusive, questioning her about being alone with him without the children. Prosecutors claimed that while her husband lay dead, Danielle was active on a dating platform. She argued that she believed Michael had survived the stabbing, as noted by prosecutor Sean Wiggins.

However, she did not seek help or try to save him. The prosecution contended that Michael bled to death. Subsequently, Danielle attempted suicide 11 hours after the incident and then contacted emergency services. Jadyn testified during the trial that her mother was “highly manipulative and toxic,” being the primary source of toxicity in their relationship. Danielle was released in 2022 after receiving credit for her time in custody, supported by letters from ministry volunteers at the local jail.
