In a London, Ontario investigation involving explosives and firearms manufacturing, the four individuals accused now confront 19 additional charges, as disclosed in court records submitted on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four individuals were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male trio having pursued studies in the engineering department.
The revised roster of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice raises the total to 31 separate counts. Some charges are collective against all four defendants, while others are specific to individual suspects. The fresh charges encompass the possession of five particular explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and access to computer data linked to firearm production.
The investigation, which commenced on January 24 following a nighttime trespassing incident at Western where two men entered an engineering building, resulted in the arrest of one individual outside the facility. Subsequent inquiries led law enforcement to a residence in the neighboring University Heights area where the remaining three suspects were apprehended.
Authorities conducted an extensive search spanning multiple days at the dwelling located at 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, in addition to two other properties in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially facing multiple firearms charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted handgun, the quartet now confronts additional allegations. Notably, Tong, Wang, and Ji are newly charged with possessing magazines, suppression devices, and another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are also accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, bearing the brunt of the charges, faces new allegations related to incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized site in Quebec. Despite possessing a firearms license, Tong’s charges include unauthorized firearm possession at an unapproved location as per his license.
The duo, Tong and Wang, are also subject to fresh charges stemming from events predating their arrests. Wang is accused of weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, along with the pair being charged with a break-in at a Western building on October 9, 2025.
Court documents reveal that Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji are facing a new set of charges for possessing explosive substances, specifically pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide. Initially charged with precursor substances and final high explosives possession, all four now also face accusations of possessing Western University property valued under $5,000.
Wang is additionally charged with accessing computer data relating to firearms or prohibited devices, specifically design files usable with 3D printers, metal milling machines, or similar systems for device production purposes.
With Tong facing 28 charges, Wang 20, Han 11, and Ji 13, the legal process is ongoing. Two of the accused are out on bail, while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and sent back to custody in February. Wang secured bail in March under strict conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision by two sureties each posting $200,000, whereas Ji is out on bail without any sureties.
