Only a few days remain to apply for the Warm Home Discount, which provides a £150 reduction on electricity bills. Eligible recipients automatically receive this benefit, deposited into their energy accounts or as vouchers for prepayment customers.
To qualify for the Warm Home Discount, individuals must have been receiving specific benefits as of August 24. While residents in England and Wales receive the discount automatically, those in Scotland need to apply manually if they don’t receive Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit.
If you believe you are eligible but haven’t received the discount, contact the Warm Home Discount scheme before February 28 by phone or mail. Energy bills are expected to decrease this spring, with the Ofgem price cap projected to drop for typical dual fuel homes. Ofgem will announce the new price cap on February 25, covering the period from April 1 to June 30.
If you are on a standard variable rate tariff, you will be covered by the Ofgem price cap. However, the cap doesn’t limit the total energy cost, which depends on usage. It controls the charges for gas and electricity units, along with fixed standing charges for energy network connection. The price cap serves as an estimate of annual expenses for individuals with standard energy consumption.
