Voters are set to participate in the polls on Monday to determine the outcome of three federal byelections in North Vancouver-Capilano, Beaches-East York, and Chicoutimi-Le Fjord. The Liberals currently hold 170 seats in the House of Commons, while opposition parties collectively possess 166 seats. To maintain control of the legislative agenda, the Liberals must secure two victories once all seats are filled.

Chicoutimi-Le Fjord is anticipated to host a highly contested race, with the former Conservative MP Richard Martel resigning from his position after being appointed to the Senate. The Liberals and Bloc Québécois are vying for the seat, with polls indicating a close competition between the two parties. Daniel Gobeil represents the Liberals, while Caroline Dubé is the Bloc candidate. Other contenders in the race include Régis Gaudreault for the Conservatives, Raphaël Émond for the New Democratic Party, and Nathe Perrone for the Green Party.

In Beaches-East York, candidates are striving to fill the vacancy left by former Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who secured a substantial victory in the 2025 federal election. Tanveer Shahnawaz, Jim Syrbos, Shannon Devine, and Bruce Livesey are the candidates from the Liberals, Conservatives, NDP, and Green Party respectively.

The North Vancouver-Capilano riding is seeking to replace former Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson, who won by a significant margin in the 2025 federal election. Wilkinson vacated the seat in July after being appointed as Canada’s ambassador to the European Union. The candidates in this riding are Braeden Caley (Liberals), Stephen Curran (Conservatives), Stephen Tweedale (NDP), and Shelley Luce (Green Party).

CBC News will provide special coverage of the byelections featuring chief political correspondent Rosemary Barton and Power & Politics host David Cochrane. The broadcast will commence at 9:30 p.m. ET and will be accessible on various CBC News streaming platforms. If the Liberals fail to secure victories in all three byelections, they will have additional opportunities in the future to attain the two wins required for a majority.

The prime minister has yet to announce three byelections in Quebec and one in Ontario, while Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall is expected to formally resign from her seat in the Saskatchewan riding of Yorkton-Melville. Additionally, Conservative MP Larry Brock plans to step down from his position in the Ontario riding of Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations next month.
