McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing outrage following a viral post on X that revealed the price of a hash brown has soared to nearly £2 in select restaurants. The post featured a snapshot of a McDonald’s menu board displaying the £1.99 price tag for a hash brown at that specific location.

The post, garnering over 459,000 views, was captioned with, “£2 for a single hash brown. We’re calling it quits.” Responses flooded in with one person stating, “It’s getting out of hand, I rarely visit but it used to be a budget-friendly option.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third simply commented, “Unbelievable.”

Another individual added, “Those hash browns are fantastic, but £2 is just too much.” Someone else reminisced, “I remember when they were only 59p.”

A spokesperson from McDonald’s clarified that many of their restaurants are independently owned and operated, allowing franchisees to set their own prices. However, they emphasized a shared commitment to offering customers a top-notch dining experience and great value for money.

This revelation follows McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming increase in the points required for redeeming free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Currently, items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets can be obtained for 5,500 points. Starting March 17, the points needed for these items will rise to 6,500. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Additionally, the point thresholds for other items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will increase from 1,500 to 2,000 points. The points required for a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will surge from 2,500 to 3,500, while a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich will now demand 5,000 points, up from 4,000.

A McDonald’s spokesperson explained to The Sun that the loyalty scheme adjustments are in response to escalating food and supply costs. They highlighted the introduction of new redemption options like Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the new Sausage Sandwich to offer customers more variety.
