Outkast members, Big Boi and André 3000, have initiated legal action against Ovrkast, a rapper and music producer from Oakland. The lawsuit, filed in Georgia by High Schoolers LLC, the entity managing Outkast’s trademarks, alleges trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breach of contract due to similarities in the names of the two acts.

The complaint, spanning 31 pages, emphasizes Outkast’s significant fame, influence, and valuable brand in southern hip-hop. It claims that Ovrkast, also known as Silas Wilson, deliberately used a name closely resembling Outkast’s without adhering to a prior agreement to cease doing so.

Citing a 2025 Rolling Stone interview where Wilson acknowledged confusion between Ovrkast and Outkast, Outkast’s legal team argues that such similarities mislead fans. Wilson, who has collaborated with notable artists like Earl Sweatshirt and Drake, responded to the lawsuit on Instagram, expressing surprise and tagging both Big Boi and André 3000.

The lawsuit details how Outkast had initially sent a cease and desist letter to Ovrkast in June 2025, leading to a settlement agreement for Ovrkast to transition to the name Overkxst. However, the suit claims Wilson delayed the name change repeatedly, eventually ceasing communication altogether.

Outkast is seeking a court order to prohibit Wilson from using the Ovrkast name, reimbursement for legal expenses, and surrender of profits obtained through the alleged unlawful activities. They also demand the destruction of all merchandise bearing the Ovrkast brand.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Wilson regarding the lawsuit have not been successful as of now.
