Quebec’s popular electric rock duo, recognized for their unique style featuring microtonality and math rock, as well as their distinctive black-and-white, polka-dotted full-body costumes, can now inspire your next Halloween attire. Instead of the usual salt-and-pepper shaker outfits, you and your partner can opt for the Angine de Poitrine couple’s costume from Party Expert, a prominent party supply store in Canada, for around a couple hundred dollars.
Following the recent buzz surrounding these costumes, they quickly sold out online on Tuesday after articles started circulating but were promptly restocked by Wednesday morning. Is this surge in demand an indication of the avant-garde band’s increasing mainstream appeal?
Renowned as a symbol of anti-AI and human creativity, the duo’s fanbase celebrates their commitment to eccentricity, from their unique electronic sound to their claim of being 333-year-old time-traveling aliens and their preference for communicating in a self-created language during performances.
For approximately $105 each this Halloween, you can embody drummer Klek de Poitrine’s iconic white with black polka dots ensemble and guitarist Khn de Poitrine’s black with white dots look. The band declined to provide any comments regarding the costumes when contacted by CBC.
Originating from Saguenay, Que., the duo formed in 2019 and gradually gained recognition within the local underground scene before releasing their debut album, “Vol. 1,” in 2024. Their unconventional musical style attracted attention, but it was their live performance at the Festival Trans Musicales in Rennes, France, in December 2025 that propelled them to fame. The performance, posted by KEXP in February, has garnered 20 million views on YouTube to date.
Their second album, “Vol. II,” released in April, received widespread acclaim. Tickets for their 2026 tour were reselling for over $500, and they drew record crowds at various festivals. Additionally, the band recently secured the Polaris Album prize and the SOCAN Polaris Song Prize for their track “Fabienk.”
Drummer Klek expressed, “We’re just two random people who enjoy playing together, and I feel we just took a wave, which was the right time at the right moment,” in an interview with The Canadian Press.
While the base costumes are priced at $59.99 each, the matching masks/hats come at an additional cost of $44.99, making it a relatively expensive costume choice. Some fans are opting for a do-it-yourself approach, as showcased by an Instagram user’s tutorial on creating a Khn costume, which has gained significant traction.
To stay true to the spirit of Angine de Poitrine’s eccentricity without breaking the bank, some may choose to craft their own versions using spare clothes, paint, cardboard, and a lot of creativity.
Watch Inside the math rock phenomenon:
Quebec’s math rock sensation, Angine de Poitrine, has been captivating audiences with their intricate masks and fast-paced music, leading to sold-out shows across North America and Europe. Their unique style has garnered praise from notable figures in the music industry, including deadmau5, Dave Grohl, and Jack White.
Whether you choose to splurge on the official costumes or embark on a DIY adventure, channeling the spirit of Angine de Poitrine this Halloween is sure to make a memorable impression at any gathering.
