The race event at Huntingdon on Sunday will proceed as scheduled following a disturbing incident on the railway tracks the previous night.
After a violent stabbing attack on a London-bound train from Doncaster, nine individuals are in critical condition, prompting significant disruptions to train services in the area. The train came to a halt at Huntingdon station, just a short distance from the racecourse.
Despite the challenges, Clerk of the course Andrew Morris affirmed that the racing activities will proceed as planned. Cooperation with local authorities is ongoing to address any necessary arrangements for the day amidst the ongoing disruptions in train services and road closures.
The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday evening aboard the service en route to London King’s Cross from Doncaster. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at Huntingdon station following reports of multiple stabbings on the train. Ten individuals were hospitalized, with nine sustaining severe injuries, although no fatalities were reported.
Two arrests have been made in connection with the incident as the race event at Huntingdon is set to kick off at 12:48 pm.
