Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are believed to have caused tension with Sarah Ferguson by unexpectedly revealing their pregnancy news on Princess Eugenie’s wedding day. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared the joyous news of expecting their first child, Prince Archie, during their time as working royals in 2018, shortly after their own fairy-tale wedding in Windsor.
Although the couple initially shared the news discreetly with a select few at the wedding celebration, Kensington Palace later made a public announcement. According to royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, this timing did not sit well with Princess Eugenie. The announcement seemed to overshadow coverage of Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank, leading to reported frustration from her mother, Sarah.
While Sarah did not directly address the situation, she posted several tweets celebrating Eugenie and Jack’s wedding around the same time as Kensington Palace confirmed Harry and Meghan’s pregnancy. Sources suggest that this was a deliberate attempt to shift focus back to the wedding and away from the Sussexes, with Sarah apparently upset that her daughter’s special day was overshadowed.
Despite any tensions, Harry explained in his autobiography why they chose to share the news during Eugenie’s wedding festivities. The couple postponed their first official foreign tour to attend the wedding and took the opportunity to inform family members individually.
The pregnancy announcement was made publicly just three days after Princess Eugenie’s wedding, reigniting past events as Sarah and Andrew face renewed scrutiny over their connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Following Andrew’s decision to step back from royal duties, it has been confirmed that he and Sarah will be leaving Royal Lodge, where they have resided for many years, and will be seeking separate accommodations.
