Seven teenagers, one as young as thirteen, were shot during a disturbance at a Christmas tree lighting event in the United States. The incident occurred in Chicago’s Loop shortly after the city’s official Christmas light ceremony at Millennium Park. The teenagers, aged between 13 and 17, were shot around 9:50 pm near State and Randolph streets, according to the Chicago Police Department. Alderman Hopkins, representing the second ward district, reported that multiple police officers were also attacked and injured, with at least one officer hospitalized.

Approximately 300 young people reportedly stormed the free event, resulting in chaos. Courtney Spinelli, a WGNNews reporter, stated that a large group appeared on the streets, followed by gunshots near the Chicago Theatre. The youngest victim, a 13-year-old girl, sustained a leg injury and is in fair condition. Another female victim, a 14-year-old, was shot in the hip. The remaining victims, all boys, suffered leg or graze wounds and are in good condition.

Eyewitness Linda Dixon described the scene as police arrived after leaving the Chicago Theatre. A second shooting occurred half an hour later near Adams and Dearborn streets, where an 18-year-old man was seriously injured in the leg. Tragically, another male victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the hospital.

The incidents have raised concerns among residents, with many expressing dismay over the violence during the holiday season.
