An alert of significance has been issued to numerous Gmail users, prompting attention especially if you are wary of artificial intelligence scanning your emails. The most recent advisory came from Lori Greiner, an American TV personality and entrepreneur, who shared crucial information on Instagram.

Over the weekend, the Shark Tank star posted a message on Instagram urging Gmail account holders to be cautious and share the alert with friends and family to ensure their safety. The notice raises concerns about Google’s new AI features, which analyze emails to offer smart search results, contextual responses, and email digests. While Google claims it doesn’t read emails for personal gain, Greiner remains apprehensive.

In her Instagram post, the celebrity emphasized the importance of not overlooking the warning concerning Gmail accounts. She highlighted Google’s practice of allowing AI to scan all emails, including financial details, tax records, and personal conversations without user awareness.

If this revelation troubles you, there’s no need to panic as it’s simple to disable this setting. Greiner reassured users that they can deactivate the AI feature in Gmail within 30 seconds. By accessing Settings, selecting “see all settings,” and turning off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet, users can prevent Google from scanning their emails.

Additionally, by deselecting the boxes for Workspace and other products under “Manage Workspace Smart Features,” users can ensure complete restriction of data usage by AI. Google maintains that personal data is never accessed by its team or third parties, guaranteeing the security of users’ information.

Despite Google’s assurances, those uncomfortable with AI scanning may consider unchecking the smart feature in Gmail. Gemini, a foundational AI model, is designed to process specific requests within Gmail securely without retaining any data beyond the intended task. Google underscores the privacy of users’ email content and assures that Gemini operates solely to fulfill user requests without storing any data.

In conclusion, for individuals averse to AI scanning, it is advisable to disable the smart feature in Gmail for peace of mind.
