A 10-year-old girl met a tragic end as she was strangled and dismembered on her birthday, with her remains set on fire in a horrendous case of child abuse.
Following a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute, officers discovered the partially wrapped remains of Victoria Martens, who had been sexually abused by her mother, at the family’s residence. The autopsy results revealed the disturbing details several months after the incident occurred.
The mother, Michelle, her boyfriend Fabian Gonzales, and Gonzales’ cousin Jessica Kelley were apprehended at the scene and faced charges including first-degree murder, child abuse, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
While Michelle initially admitted to child abuse resulting in death, she later retracted her statement. Allegations suggest that Michelle watched as Gonzales assaulted and killed her daughter, with Kelley also implicated in the gruesome act of dismemberment.
During the legal proceedings, Michelle accepted a plea deal related to child abuse resulting in death, while Gonzales faced reduced charges. Gonzales maintained his innocence, stating he had no involvement in Victoria’s tragic fate.
The trials of Gonzales and Kelley were postponed to a later date, with Michelle serving a prison sentence but later being released. Kelley, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to various charges and received a lengthy prison term.
