Legendary music producer and co-founder of Buggles, Trevor Horn, surprised fans with an unexpected performance alongside emerging artist Sophie Grey at O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. The duo delighted the crowd by performing “Video Killed the Radio Star,” sparking positive reactions on social media.

Audience members praised the impromptu duet, with one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressing excitement over Horn’s appearance onstage. Sophie and Horn reimagined the iconic hit, blending her Retro Electro style with the song’s timeless new-wave essence, creating a standout moment during her set.

This collaboration followed Sophie’s release of a new version of the track, featuring futuristic synth production and a nostalgic feel. Reflecting on the significance of “Video Killed the Radio Star,” Sophie noted its timeless quality and relevance to contemporary music trends.

Sophie, a classically-trained pianist and keyboardist, honed her skills at Thornton School of Music, mentored by renowned songwriter Dr. Patrice Rushen. The original “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles made history as the first music video aired on MTV in August 1981, marking a pivotal moment in music television.

The Buggles, formed by Horn and Geoff Downes, achieved chart-topping success with their iconic tune in 1979. Horn’s production prowess extended to collaborations with Yes, including the Grammy Award-winning album “90125.” As Horn prepares for an upcoming tour, his surprise performance with Sophie showcased his enduring impact on the music industry.

While Horn gears up for a series of concerts in Newcastle, Manchester, and London, Sophie continues her tour, having previously shared the stage with artists like Shaggy and Marianas Trench.
