A man who attempted to re-enter the UK via a small boat after a previous deportation has been sent back once again, according to the Home Office.
The individual, who had been detained upon both arrivals in the country, was repatriated on a flight today after his initial removal on September 19. Despite being returned, he managed to come back nearly a month later on October 18.
Under the ‘one in one out’ agreement established between France and the UK during the summer, a total of 94 individuals have been sent back to France. The Government criticized the man for his futile attempts to enter the UK, emphasizing that he wasted his resources in the process.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that individuals trying to re-enter the UK after being deported under the UK-France agreement are engaging in a fruitless endeavor. The man was swiftly identified through biometrics, detained, and promptly removed.
Mahmood issued a firm warning, asserting that any attempts to return to the UK will result in immediate deportation. She pledged to enhance the expulsion of illegal migrants to safeguard the nation’s borders.
In a previous interview with The Guardian, the man expressed his concerns about safety in France, highlighting his fear of human trafficking networks and the dangers posed by smugglers. He recounted a harrowing experience in France where he was threatened with violence and felt compelled to make the perilous journey to the UK.
A recent bilateral agreement permits the detention and deportation of individuals arriving in the UK via small boats, with an equal number of legitimate asylum seekers being sent back to France. The UK government believes this measure will dissuade individuals from falling prey to human traffickers and aims to increase the rate of returns.
