A serious collision led to the closure of a major motorway this afternoon, causing significant traffic congestion. The incident occurred on the northbound lane of the A627 near the M62 to Rochdale, resulting in the shutdown of both motorways.

Greater Manchester Police reported that a man was hospitalized after his vehicle flipped over following a collision with a road sign and street lights. The A627M has now reopened fully between J20 and J21 after necessary repairs were completed, as confirmed by National Highways.

Drivers heading northbound are advised to follow the designated route indicated by yellow Hollow Diamond signs due to the ongoing closure. Damage to a lamp column and a road sign from the earlier crash has necessitated the use of specialized equipment to handle exposed electrical cables at the site.

The National Highways announced that the A627(M) will likely remain closed throughout the evening due to the overturned vehicle. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service mentioned that only one person was involved in the collision and managed to exit the car before emergency crews arrived.

Emergency responders were called to the scene in Rochdale following a crash involving a car and streetlighting. The casualty self-rescued before the fire service’s arrival, and efforts are ongoing to ensure the area’s safety in collaboration with the Highways Agency.

Following the incident on the A627 in Rochdale, a man has been transported to the hospital for treatment. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the vehicle overturned after hitting a road sign and streetlighting, resulting in lane closures for the recovery process.
