A mother of four from Wales has tragically passed away while celebrating her son’s 13th birthday on a family vacation in Spain. Emma Wood, 46, from Treherbert in the Rhondda, collapsed during a boat trip with her family on October 19 and despite efforts to revive her, she could not be saved.
The family had traveled 1,200 miles from Wales to the Costa del Sol to mark her son’s milestone birthday. Ms. Wood, described as a devoted mother, daughter, and friend, leaves behind four children whom she adored and who were her greatest joy.
A family friend, Amanda Jayne, speaking on behalf of Ms. Wood’s mother Dianne Astley, remembered her as a kind and beautiful soul both inside and out. Ms. Jayne requested privacy for the family to cope with the tragedy and expressed love and sorrow for Emma.
Ms. Wood’s body has been transferred to a hospital on the Costa del Sol, and an inquest into her passing is anticipated to take place in Pontypridd at a later date. The British Embassy in Spain is providing support to the family in coordination with the Spanish authorities.
The sudden loss of Emma Wood has deeply affected her loved ones and the community, with an outpouring of support and condolences being shared during this difficult time.
