Alleged stalker Julia Wandelt, who identified herself as Madeleine McCann, recounted an incident where she left Kate McCann in distress after approaching her outside their residence last year. Wandelt, a 24-year-old from Lubin, Poland, allegedly tried to contact Mrs. McCann multiple times, along with Karen Spragg, a 61-year-old from Caerau, Cardiff. They are facing charges of stalking the family and causing distress from June 2022 to February 2025, which they deny.

During a court hearing, Wandelt described a moment when she encountered Mrs. McCann at her home, leading to an emotional exchange that left both parties in tears. Wandelt expressed her intention to communicate with Mrs. McCann, who declined and mentioned involving the police. Additionally, Wandelt shared details of a letter she sent to Mrs. McCann in December, signed as “Madeleine,” expressing a desire for a DNA test and seeking truth and contact.

Wandelt also discussed her interaction with Spragg, where they discussed various topics before traveling to the UK. She mentioned attempting to obtain a DNA test with the McCanns and receiving advice to take Mrs. McCann’s hair, which she rejected. Wandelt further elaborated on her efforts to establish her identity, including a trip to the US for a DNA test and appearing on a television show. The court heard about Wandelt’s messages to Amelie, Madeleine’s sister, where she sought help and clarification about her identity.

In response to questions about her messages, Wandelt denied being manipulative and asserted her sincerity in wanting to uncover her true identity. The court proceedings continue with Wandelt’s testimony and examination of her interactions with both Mrs. McCann and Spragg.
