US politicians have criticized Andrew Mountbatten Windsor for his lack of response in the midst of an investigation into his ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Lawmakers in the US have urged the former prince to travel to the country and provide testimony regarding his enduring friendship with the financier, as part of a broader inquiry into Epstein’s illegal activities. Andrew has been under escalating pressure both in the UK and internationally, resulting in the removal of all his royal and military titles.

The embattled ex-royal was formally requested by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to participate in a “transcribed interview.” Despite vehemently refuting all accusations against him, Andrew did not meet the deadline set by the committee, as reported by two of its members.

Democratic Party representatives Robert Garcia and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam condemned Andrew’s silence, emphasizing its significance. However, the committee lacks the jurisdiction to compel non-US citizens or foreign nationals residing outside the US to testify, rendering Andrew legally exempt from mandatory response.

In a joint statement, the lawmakers emphasized the importance of Andrew addressing the serious allegations against him, citing evidence from various sources. They affirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims, irrespective of the individuals’ social status or political affiliations.

Following the publication of a posthumous memoir by Virginia Giuffre, accusing Andrew of engaging in sexual activities with her when she was 17, the pressure on Andrew intensified. Just before the book’s release, Andrew voluntarily renounced his Duke of York title. In a subsequent announcement, King Charles III confirmed the removal of Andrew’s royal honors and titles, alongside eviction from the Royal Lodge mansion.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, who also faced scrutiny for his connections to Epstein, eventually signed a bill enabling the release of the Epstein files. This decision came after prolonged delays in releasing Department of Justice documents, with Trump ultimately yielding to congressional pressure following a decisive vote in favor of the release.
