An elderly couple cried out for help as their son allegedly attacked them and set fire to their house, leading to their tragic deaths. Darius Hazard, 44, has been charged by the police with arson and two counts of murder in connection with the incident in North Adams, Massachusetts. The authorities reported that Hazard assaulted his parents, aged 76 and 83, during a distressing situation at home before setting the house ablaze and fleeing the scene.

Hazard allegedly confessed to hearing his parents’ desperate pleas for help after igniting the fire. Court documents revealed that he physically harmed his parents, rendering them helpless on the floor before starting the fire and driving away from the property. The North Adams Police Department stated that Hazard admitted to pouring gasoline inside the house and setting it on fire. He has pleaded not guilty to the arson charge.

Reports indicate that Hazard was struggling to care for his mother, who suffered from advanced arthritis and scoliosis. The couple’s neighbors noticed smoke emanating from the house, prompting them to alert the authorities. Tragically, the elderly couple was discovered deceased inside their home.

Hazard managed to evade capture initially, with the police locating him at a Walmart after he failed to show up for work. The community expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing that the Hazard family had been respected members of the neighborhood for many years. Concerned residents highlighted the need for further information to understand the tragic events that transpired.

Family friend Nate Shoot expressed disbelief at the accusations against Hazard, stating that it was out of character for him. Another resident, Steve Leriche, echoed the sentiments of confusion and disbelief within the community. The tragic incident has left many in the neighborhood reeling, struggling to comprehend the events that unfolded.
