Pressure is mounting on Andrew Mountbatten Windsor to testify...

King Charles has taken decisive action against former Prince Andrew by stripping him of his royal privileges following public backlash over his association with Jeffrey Epstein. The monarch, in consultation with Prince William and other family members, made the unprecedented decision to remove Andrew’s titles, honors, and royal privileges, including his residence at the Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor.

The move came after a public incident where the King was confronted by a protester questioning his knowledge of Andrew and Epstein, prompting concerns over public opinion regarding the scandal involving the former Duke of York. Following pressure from MPs and the public, Buckingham Palace announced the initiation of the process to revoke Andrew’s titles, with plans for him to relocate to the private Sandringham estate.

The formal process to remove Andrew’s titles has begun, with his name already removed from the official roll of the peerage. This action does not require an Act of Parliament, as confirmed by a Palace statement. Despite losing his titles, Andrew retains his counsellor of state status, allowing him to carry out temporary duties on behalf of the monarch. Plans for his relocation to Sandringham estate are underway, funded by the King, with negotiations ongoing for the surrender of his Royal Lodge lease.

While Andrew’s status has changed, he remains on the official Royal Family website and retains his position in the line of succession. However, only “working members” of the royal family are expected to fulfill certain duties in his absence. The process of surrendering his lease may delay his move to Sandringham until after Christmas, avoiding any potential encounters during the traditional royal gathering at the estate.

The King’s decision to strip Andrew’s titles has garnered support from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who expressed sympathy for the victims of Epstein’s crimes. Despite the changes, Andrew’s role as a counsellor of state remains, allowing him to step in for the monarch when needed. The ongoing process of relinquishing his royal privileges and formalities may take time, similar to a property transaction, but efforts are being made to expedite the process.
