Alex Lamontagne made a remarkable Vancouver debut by scoring two goals, leading the visiting Rise to a dominant 5-1 victory over the top-ranked Ottawa Rapid in Northern Super League action on Saturday in Ottawa.

In addition to Lamontagne’s goals, Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise. The team showcased their attacking prowess by scoring three goals within a span of 10 minutes early in the second half, securing a comfortable win at TD Place.

The Rapid managed to score a consolation goal in the 82nd minute through Elise Bell, ending Jessica Wulf’s bid for a clean sheet.

Following this impressive win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point. The Rise now boast a record of seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, accumulating a total of 22 points. Meanwhile, the Rapid, despite the loss, maintain their lead at the top with 33 points from 10 wins, three draws, and four losses.

The Rise showed their dominance by edging out the Rapid in possession (53% to 47%) and outshooting them 17-8, with 11 shots on target compared to the hosts’ 3.

In terms of set pieces, Vancouver earned four out of the seven corners in the game, while both teams received two yellow cards each.

Looking ahead, the Rise will host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will travel to face AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
