Canada faced fresh accusations of rule-breaking during a women’s curling match against Switzerland at the Winter Olympics. The Canadian men’s team also engaged in a heated argument with Sweden during their game, which was overshadowed by a dispute over alleged double-touching incidents involving the stones on the ice.

The Swedish team claimed that members of the Canadian team had double-touched the stones beyond the designated hog line, where the stone must be released. The controversy spilled over into the following day when Canadian curler Rachel Homan had her stone disqualified for a supposed double-touch after release, as determined by the official ruling.

Despite Homan’s protestations on the lack of video evidence for a review, World Curling regulations do not allow for official replays, making the official decision final. Expressing disbelief and confusion, Homan’s teammate Emma Miskew stated that from their perspective, it seemed like a clean throw, further emphasizing their disagreement with the call.

Following the match, Homan expressed frustration, stating that she could never comprehend the ruling and insisted that such actions were not typical of their team. Curling Canada addressed the cheating allegations and a separate incident involving Marc Kennedy’s use of inappropriate language during the game. The statement emphasized Curling Canada’s commitment to fair play, respect, and sportsmanship in the sport.

Kennedy, while acknowledging his language mistake, defended his actions as a response to defending his integrity and that of his teammates. He expressed regret over his choice of words but stood by his instinct to protect their reputation in the face of scrutiny.
