Performance issues are a common concern among iPhone users, especially those with older devices. Over time, devices tend to slow down, particularly after Apple introduces its annual iOS update in September. However, a significant change is expected in 2026.
Recently unveiled at WWDC in California, iOS 27 brings exciting updates including a more intelligent Siri assistant, enhanced Apple Intelligence, improved photo editing features, and new customization options for the striking Liquid Glass design. Notably, Apple promises a substantial performance enhancement with this update.
Apple anticipates that iOS 27 will enable apps to launch up to 30% faster, enhancing the overall user experience. Additionally, loading photos across devices is expected to be up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers could be up to 80% quicker.
The notable aspect is that this performance boost is not limited to the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max. A feature known as the CPU scheduler will also enhance the speed and fluidity of older models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.
The CPU scheduler optimizes the device’s performance by prioritizing the app displayed on the screen, rather than allocating power to all background processes. This continuous adjustment of performance is aimed at providing users with a smoother and more efficient device usage experience.
Apple is confident that these enhancements will prolong the usability of aging devices, potentially eliminating the need to upgrade iPhones that are still in good working condition. The company explained that these platform-wide improvements aim to make everyday tasks feel faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.
While the release date for iOS 27 has not been disclosed, it is expected to be available in September.
