Labour MP Emily Darlington has warned that Nigel Farage’s opposition to the Online Safety Act could lead to the accessibility of porn for children. Darlington emphasized the importance of the bill in safeguarding children from online predators and highlighted the real-life implications of online abuse.

Darlington, a member of the tech committee in Westminster, expressed concerns about catfishing, citing its prevalence among young people in her community. In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, she criticized Farage for advocating the repeal of the Online Safety Act, stating that it could potentially expose children to harmful content online.

The MP argued that the legislation was crucial in protecting children and promoting free speech for all individuals. She criticized Reform UK for opposing the law, claiming that it fails to adequately shield children and restricts free speech. Darlington shared disturbing accounts of catfishing incidents and highlighted the risks posed by online grooming and predatory behavior.

She underscored the need to address online harms comprehensively, noting that grooming is increasingly shifting to digital platforms and causing significant harm to vulnerable young individuals. Despite requests for comment, Reform UK did not respond to the criticism leveled at their stance on the Online Safety Act.
