Sky is rolling out a new feature called Real Time for Sky Glass and Sky Stream, powered by Sky OS. This enhancement aims to minimize the streaming delay experienced by many Sky users, particularly beneficial for upcoming events like the World Cup. The Real Time upgrade is designed to reduce the latency in live sports broadcasts, providing viewers with a more immediate and synchronized viewing experience.
Initially introduced for Premier League matches in 2024, this technology is now being extended to include coverage from BBC and ITV, offering lower latency for major events such as the World Cup. According to Sky, Real Time ensures that viewers can enjoy live sports with minimal delay and fewer spoilers.
To activate Real Time during supported live sports broadcasts, viewers can opt for the Real Time option on their screens. This feature is accessible on both Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices through an opt-in button or designated channels like BBC One HD RT, ITV1 HD RT, and ITV4 HD RT.
Sky’s shift towards internet-based services like Sky Glass and Sky Stream marks a significant transition from the traditional Sky Q platform. These services operate over broadband, providing advantages such as easy self-installation, regular software updates, and seamless integration with popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Apple TV+, and Disney+.
As Sky focuses on internet-delivered television and enhanced streaming experiences, Sky Glass and Sky Stream remain pivotal to the company’s strategy. This update underscores the importance of Sky’s streaming future in delivering a more advanced and user-friendly entertainment experience.
