A recent survey of 2,000 drivers with children under 17 has unveiled the top family disputes during car journeys. The study showed that 69% of parents have had arguments with their kids while on the road, with hunger being the primary trigger for disagreements at 34%, surpassing the classic ‘are we there yet?’ question at 26%.

Interestingly, parents reportedly start feeling irritated after their kids ask the infamous question just three times. The research, sponsored by Vauxhall in line with the launch of its new Frontera family SUV, also highlighted that 14% of families have quarreled due to poor phone or internet connectivity, leading to 55% feeling hesitant to embark on road trips.

Furthermore, the study revealed that 47% of parents find long drives with children more stressful than traveling abroad with them. With the upcoming October half-term, 64% of parents are gearing up for extended car journeys. Managing director, Steve Catlin, emphasized the importance of proper snacks, space, and a curated road trip playlist to ensure a peaceful journey.

Challenges such as kids getting bored (50%), sibling arguments (37%), and keeping them entertained (35%) were identified as major hurdles during long drives. To tackle these issues proactively, 71% of parents pack snacks and drinks while 22% schedule travel during nap times.

Moreover, over half of the respondents believe that ample backseat space would significantly ease journeys with children, while 45% highlighted the importance of music streaming via Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The survey also revealed that 52% of parents have threatened to turn the car around due to misbehavior, with 34% actually following through on the threat.

When considering a new family car, 74% prioritize comfort, while 57% prioritize safety. The spokesperson for Vauxhall emphasized the family-friendly features of the new Frontera, such as a spacious interior, connectivity options, and comfort-focused technologies like Intelli-Seat.
