Keir Starmer responded calmly to the recent criticism from Donald Trump, stating that Trump is not comparable to Churchill. Starmer emphasized that the UK’s ties with the US should not be solely influenced by Trump’s statements. While some argue that a shift in the special relationship could impact Ukraine, Starmer’s influence on Trump has been diminishing. Trump’s actions towards Russia and Ukraine seem more swayed by his last conversation rather than Starmer’s input.

In a separate development, Pete Hegseth, referred to as Trump’s “Secretary of War,” announced that the US had targeted and eliminated the leader of an Iranian group planning harm to the President. Not disclosing specifics, Hegseth highlighted his role in including them on the target list. Hegseth’s comments come amidst a reported plot to assassinate Trump linked to Iran, currently under scrutiny in a New York court.

Regarding the alleged strike on a girls’ school in Iran, Hegseth mentioned an ongoing investigation without elaborating further. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem faced pressure to apologize for labeling individuals as “domestic terrorists,” but she declined to offer a direct apology. Senator Thomas Tillis criticized Noem’s handling of information requests related to the immigration crackdown, threatening to obstruct Senate proceedings if unresolved.

The recent primary elections marked the official start of the 2026 midterm campaign, with significant contests unfolding. In Texas, Senator John Cornyn faces a runoff against Attorney General Ken Paxton, extending the primary timeline. The results indicate Cornyn’s vulnerability despite his alignment with Trump, while Paxton asserts stronger ties to the MAGA movement.

On the Democratic side, state Rep. James Talarico emerged as the Senate candidate, viewed as capable of bridging political divides and potentially aiding Democrats in challenging Trump’s Republicans. The outcomes of these races may influence Trump’s endorsements and shape the political landscape moving forward.
