Lewis Hamilton, a prominent figure in Formula 1, expressed his desire to see Africa regain control of its resources by breaking free from the influence of countries like Britain, France, Spain, and others. Hamilton also voiced his hope for the sport to return to the continent before he retires.

During a pre-race interview ahead of the Australian Grand Prix as the 2026 season kicks off in Melbourne, Hamilton was questioned by a South African journalist about the potential of hosting a race in Africa. The seven-time world champion seized the opportunity to share his aspiration for Africa to reclaim its autonomy, highlighting his concerns about the ongoing exploitation of the continent.

Hamilton emphasized the significance of Africa, stating that it possesses the potential to become a leading global powerhouse if its resources are utilized effectively. He urged unity among the leaders of African nations to take back control and shape a better future for the continent, free from external dominance.

Expressing his eagerness to witness Formula 1 return to Africa, Hamilton noted that no Grand Prix has been held on the continent since 1993. He mentioned his fondness for locations like Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa as potential venues for future races, applauding their beauty and suitability for hosting Formula 1 events.

As an advocate for Africa’s inclusion in Formula 1’s calendar, Hamilton disclosed that he is actively lobbying the decision-makers within the sport to ensure that a race in Africa materializes before his retirement. With his personal ties to the continent, Hamilton expressed pride in his African heritage, citing visits to countries like Togo, Benin, Senegal, and Nigeria as cherished experiences.
