A large-scale explosion shook the Ukrainian capital following a ballistic missile attack by Russia that obliterated a power station.
The city of Kyiv was engulfed in flames and chaos as a powerful explosion tore through the area, illuminating the night sky over the left bank of the city, in the aftermath of the missile strike.
The assault, which will disrupt heating facilities as winter approaches, occurred shortly after Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy of Vladimir Putin, suggested in Washington that Russia, the US, and Ukraine were nearing a diplomatic resolution.
However, the recent devastation on the ground paints a starkly different picture, with casualties and destruction wreaking havoc on the Ukrainian capital during the Russian bombardment overnight.
Donald Trump announced plans to seek assistance from Chinese President Xi Jinping, an ally of Putin, to halt the conflict. Trump, during the beginning of his tour of Asia, expressed his intentions to explore various avenues to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, including discussions on oil, energy, or other possibilities, seeking China’s support in dealing with Russia.
These statements followed a recent round of sanctions imposed by the US on Moscow, targeting Russia’s major oil companies in an effort to impose economic pressure on Putin.
The overnight onslaught led to the destruction of the CHP-6 power plant, which supplies hot water heating to the left bank of Kyiv. Additionally, a kindergarten was damaged, marking the third such incident in a week, while a warehouse complex was engulfed in flames, resulting in casualties and injuries from missile and drone attacks in the capital.
Supporters of the Russian invasion have advocated for a complete cutoff of electricity supply to Ukraine.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two individuals, including a firefighter and a civilian woman, lost their lives, and several others were injured as residential properties suffered damage.
These incidents followed the deaths of three individuals due to Russian attacks in Kherson a day earlier. Russia launched multiple ballistic missiles and drones at Ukraine.
Numerous explosions were reported in Volgograd as Ukraine targeted a crucial electricity transmission hub supplying power primarily to Moscow and other regions. Ukraine also allegedly used HIMARS missiles to strike a dam in Russia’s Belgorod region, causing damage to sluice gates without destroying the structure.
The recent attacks in the ongoing conflict coincide with heightened concerns among Moscow officials following Trump’s recent oil sanctions, aimed at impacting a significant revenue source for the country.
Dmitriev reportedly engaged in discreet discussions with Trump administration officials in the US. While attempting to portray the conflict as closer to a resolution than many perceive, despite the Kremlin rejecting Trump’s call for an immediate ceasefire, the envoy commended Zelensky’s acknowledgment of the situation as progress toward a potential diplomatic solution.</
